In an emergency situation, every second counts for first response medical teams. That is why Carilion Clinic and TeleNav Inc. today announced the implementation of TeleNav’s TeleNav Track GPS solution over mobile phones, to assist Carilion with the location and deployment of ambulances and emergency medical teams during local organized events. The Carilion Clinic is western Virginia’s leading healthcare partner.
Carilion Patient Transportation Services was recently tasked with providing medical response teams for events that take place at the Martinsville Speedway, which often attracts thousands of people.
With TeleNav Track, Carilion is now able to pinpoint emergency medical service (EMS) providers down to the section they are standing by at the speedway. This feature of TeleNav Track has reduced emergency response times to around one minute from the time a call is received to when the team arrives on the scene. Additionally, Carilion uses TeleNav Track’s online reporting tool that can show where all team members have been throughout the event.

Despite some pretty significant security concerns, everyone’s favorite futurific company VeriChip is looking to get its chips under the skin of the largest group of people yet: the entire US military. According to the DC Examiner, the company is lobbying the Pentagon to choose its RFID tags as a replacement for the famous metal dog tags, making information like a person’s name and complete medical record instantly available with the swipe of an RFID reader. Needless to say, not everyone’s sold on the idea, with veterans’ groups and some members of Congress already raising concerns. There doesn’t seem to be any indication as to when a decision might be made, although given VeriChip’s political connections, we wouldn’t be so quick to bet against it.
