Magellan announced yesterday a new $299.99 Maestro PND with new design,4.7-inch Display, voice command capabilities,hands-free Bluetooth calling and highway lane assist. Another new feature in this device is “Find Your Car”which remembers the location of your car in parking lots, airports, malls, universities, amusement parks or stadiums. Business as usual
The purchase of Magellan by Taiwanese Mitac, which also owns Mio and Navman PND brands, was announced last December. Thus far no public statement was made about the brand strategy Mitac intend to apply on the US market between Mio and Magellan. Until now the only visible change has been that Mio laid off a majority of its US employees during the first quarter of 2009.
