Traffic information system with cellular data launched in Australia
UK-based ITIS Holdings has announced today the commercial launch of the first traffic information system in Australia to use Cellular Floating Vehicle Data (CFVD), together with their local licensee Traffic Intelligence and cellular operator SingTel Optus. Covering over 70,000 km of roadway, the system will be branded Optus Traffic View (OTV) and has been available since June 2009.
Using ITIS TrafficScience CFVD technology, Traffic Intelligence and Optus are generating traffic information from anonymously processing signalling information from the Optus mobile network. This deployment follows a first pilot launched in Sidney at the end of 2006 by these three companies.
In addition to the Australian project, Traffic Intelligence is in early stage negotiations with both mobile phone carriers in New Zealand to deploy the ITIS technology. “If successful, we expect that opportunity to come to fruition in early 2010”, said Traffic Intelligence.
