When rock band gets to LBS
Rock band Nine Inch Nails (NIN) has announced the launch of its iPhone application which, among other features, has a “nearby tab” filtering conversations between fans of the band taking place within a 2,10 or 15 miles radius.

Using the application, fans can geo-tag their discussions. To protect privacy the application has a “location fuzziness” feature which randomizes where the user exactly is within a one mile radius. The location of fans is also visible on the NIN website where a Google Earth plugin allows to see new posts with their location in real-time. Once Apple will start shipping the version 3.0 of the iPhone software, the NIN application will release a new version that will add support for Google maps and push notification within the application.

This is yet another innovative use of location on the iPhone where location-based features are easy to be implemented thanks to well documented APIs.

Watch the video presentation below:(the demonstration of the location-aware feature starts after the first three minutes of presentation).
